Chapter Philanthropy and Service

The Washington DC Metro Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter Philanthropy Chair is Dolores Derrington. You can reach her by email at: philanthropy.dcmetrodddalum@gmail.com or sunshinedcd@gmail.com

In addition to our national partnership with St. Jude, the Washington DC Metro Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter volunteers locally in the Washington, D.C. area.

Our Alumnae Chapter also sponsors an Undergraduate Scholarship, The Barbara Downey Freson Undergraduate Scholarship. Currently endowed through our National Foundation, we are able to award at least $2500 every year to a student from the Northern Virginia, DC or Suburban Maryland area, or attending a school in the DC Metro area. Contact our philanthropy chairs for additional information.

Philanthropy 2023-24 Update

We will be hosting a team for the St. Jude Walk for the Cure in September. Please join us! More details soon. We recently sent $11,000 to the Tri Delta Foundation in support of our Undergraduate Scholarship, to help increase our annual award to a deserving student. Thanks to all the Tri Deltas who helped make this possible. We hope to continue our support of this worthwhile endeavor while we also look for new ways to help our neighbors and communities. If you have ideas, please contact us! We'd love to hear your ideas and welcome your help.

Philanthropy Fun Fact

Even in the midst of these uncertain times, we can be brave, bold, and kind by advancing the magnificent, meaningful, and marvelous motto of Tri Delta. Throughout the year, our chapter answered the call to “Let us steadfastly love one another”. With your support, we raised hundreds of dollars for the children and families of St. Jude's Hospital and have donated gently used clothing to The Lamb Center to aid as dozens of women transition out of homelessness. Thank you for living a life of Delta Love!

Philanthropy Fun Fact

April showers should bring rightful reasons for Tri Delts to rejoice.  Although many of our collegiate sisters are preparing to close-out an unexpected ear, they can still find inspiration from sisters like Barbara Downey Freson.  And, so can you.  Barbara was a dedicated member of our Alumnae chapter who selflessly gave her time, treasure, talent, and perseverance to raising a large portion of the scholarship fund.  Barbara coordinated the "Delta Shop" and dedicated the proceeds towards our undergraduate scholarship.  This month will you join us in honoring Barbara's legacy by turning April showers into a reason and season for generosity to reign? When paying your dues, please consider a donation to the Barbara Downey Freson Scholarship Fund.  Contributions of any size make a meaningful difference and we thank you in advance for honoring Barbara's legacy while investing in the potential of a collegiate sister.

Philanthropy Fun Fact

March is the perfect month for pansies to bloom. As you witness the beauty of the Tri Delta flower, remember it is a symbol of alumni membership and the third step in our lifetime development. When you support our alumnae philanthropy you help actualize the power, purpose and passion of the pansy. Tri Delta chose children’s cancer charities as our philanthropy focus in the early 1970s—please continue to support our efforts so we can boldly build upon our legacy.

Philanthropy Fun Fact

February is a wonderful time to highlight the heart of our philanthropic matters. In 2018, our Chapter reamed our scholarship to the Barbara Downey Freson Undergraduate Scholarship to honor the memory of one of our most loyal proponents of the scholarship. Your support enables us to award scholarships to collegian sisters. Thank you in advance for helping us spread Delta Love through our alumnae philanthropy.

Philanthropy Fun Fact

January starts a new commitment to philanthropy. Let’s ensure some things never change. Join us in 2020 to build upon our Chapter’s bold philanthropic legacy.
