Northern Virginia Panhellenic

Northern Virginia Alumnae Panhellenic Association (NVAPA)

The Northern Virginia Alumnae Panhellenic Association (NVAPA) consists of 21 Northern Virginia women’s Greek organizations within the 26 member groups that make up the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). The NVAPA is very active in supporting the Greek women’s community at George Mason University and philanthropic projects such as ELLIE’S HATs and Circle of Sisterhood. Ellie’s Hats is a local charity that provides hats, gas cards, and local grocery cards to families whose children have cancer.  Circle of Sisterhood is an organization that provides opportunities for girls to go to school internationally. Annually NVAPA raises funds through their “Scholarship Play” to provide two $1500 scholarships.  The 2020 play was “Moonlight and Magnolias” on March 10, 2020. The play was cancelled in 2021 due to COVID. For 2021-22, we enjoyed "The Christmas Carol" on December 7th. The 2019 winners of our scholarships were Jaime Scott, a Pi Beta Phi from George Mason and Taylor Palamaras an Alpha Xi Delta from Old Dominion.  April Whitescarver, a Tri Delta and former member, received one of these scholarships to complete her law degree.

Each academic year NVAPA assists the George Mason University Panhellenic with preference signing on Sunday, the last day of recruitment. We are looking for approximately 15 - 18 volunteers to assist again this September.
You may contact Carol Mooney at czm.va75@cox.net if you have questions, would like clarification and, most importantly, if you would like to volunteer. Please put in the subject line (NVAPA Volunteer) so that your email is not missed!

NVAPA Women of Distinction Awards
In 2006 recognizing the outstanding women volunteering not only in NVAPA, but throughout their communities Tri Delta and Alpha Sigma Tau proposed and developed the “Woman of the Year” award to honor these ladies.  Three Northern Virginia Tri Delta alumnae received this award. They are Sandra Kilburn, Sarah Lindsay, and Jane Delbridge. This recognition expanded once and, Leah Porzel, one of our Golden Circle members, received the “Alumnae of the Year” award. To expand recognition, these awards were changed to the NVAPA “Women of Distinction Awards” to include” Emerging Leader” and “Leading with Experience.” Claire Machosky-Ullman, and Amy Goodman were recognized as Leading with Experience. In April of 2019 Arline Easley was honored with the Leading with Experience award and Lucy Tschetter was recognized as an Emerging Leader.  Tri Delta has received more awards than any other Greek organization in NVAPA.
